All generic TLD extensions and certain country-code ones support a security lock functionality whose purpose is to prevent unwanted transfers of existing domains. Lots of registry operators that manage country-code top-level domain names that do not support this option are in the process of introducing it for the sake of safety and for the convenience of the domain owners. A domain can be transferred only if it is unlocked and only a registrant who has been given access to the account with the current domain name registrar can achieve that. New domain names are registered with the lock feature enabled intentionally, so as to impede any unwanted transfer attempts. The lock option is one of the security measures for regulating the transfer of existing domains between registrar companies that have been adopted over the years.
